2021 Harvest and Cover crops

2021 Harvest and Cover Crops

Our 2021 Harvest is officially over and the cover crops are planted. After every harvest at our hemp farm in Oregon, we plant cover crops. Farmers using cover crops has been a controversial topic until recently, where it’s being used more often. Now what exactly is a cover crop and how is it useful? First off, it is purely used to benefit our Cannabis plants (CBD, CBG, CBDV), our organic CBD flower, and is not intended for harvesting. We can use the clippings from harvest as extra compost for nutrient rich soil. Also, the chickens can do some nibbling on it and in return make extra chicken poo for composting.

More benefits

Every year after we are finished harvesting our luscious organic hemp flower, we are quick to plant the cover crop over every bit of land for growing. This assures that our cannabis plants will be getting more nutrient dense soil, test higher for organic matter and grow vibrantly for the next years crop. Along with that, it also allows for less dirt erosion and more natural aeration. This is due to the roots creating little tunnels for the air flow to be more free and sporadic. Another bonus…the roots have the ability to filter out bad chemicals, such as Nitrogen and Phosphorus. That way when you are sipping your organic hemp tea, we know there is nothing harmful in it.

Less then 5% of crop land uses Cover Crops. We are proud to use cover crops and bring awareness to the amazing abilities they have. When making our products like CBD Salve and CBD Mints, we want to make sure all the ingredients are wholesome and beneficial for you and your family.
