Soild your undies challenge
In 2019 our local Soil and Water Conservation District chose about a dozen female farmers from across the county to participate in a unique challenge introduced by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to demonstrate healthy soils, called the "Soil Your Undies" Challenge. The challenge is to bury a pair of organic cotton underwear in your field for 60 days. The idea is that the tiny microbes in the soil will devour the cotton fibers, leaving only the elastic band behind, which does not decompose well. The more deteriorated the undies, the healthier the soil. According to the NRCS, just one teaspoon of healthy soil contains more microbes than there are people on the planet! The Willamette Valley which we live in is home to over 200 different crops, but it would not be possible to grow them all without our fertile soil.

Soil your undies challenge

“Soil Your Undies” Challenge. The health of our soil is what regenerative farming is all about. If your soil is degrated so much that the microbes and bacteria aren’t able to do their job, then the fabric won’t break down like it’s supposed to. Obviously, Rochelle accepted the “Soil your undies” challenge by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to prove that Whole Circle Farms in fact has amazing soil health. The oversized cotton britches were buried underground for just 60 days.

When they were removed just the band and few tattered edges of the underwear were left. “This shows that our soil is healthy and that our efforts in regenerative farming are working,” says Rochelle. Certainly, the first step in how CBD is formed is creating healthy soil for it to grow in. Many of our wonderful customers have raved about how CBD has changed their lives, and we know our business provides top quality CBD products because of how we run our hemp farm in Oregon.
